Adding good literature to our homeschooling was a goal of mine, but I could not, for the life of me, figure out how to fit it in amongst all the other stuff we were doing! Then I discovered the wonderful world of literature guides.
Learning Language Arts Through Literature is a complete workbook system that incorporates great books AND language arts skills like writing letters, using the newspaper, etc. Generally there are about 4 or so books per year for the older elementary levels.
Total Language Plus is a similar program, but with a Christian base. I've actually never seen these, but a good friend really enjoyed using them with her children.
Progeny Press is more of a reading comprehension program for great literature, from a Biblical perspective, but includes activities to expand the learning beyond simple comprehension questions. They also have a wide variety of books to choose from.
